Before You Start: Confirm These Three Things ​

  • ☐ Phone supports Google services (GMS): most Chinese Android phones (OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus) ship with GMS — it's just disabled by default. Phones without GMS (some Huawei HarmonyOS models) can't install Google Play, so this guide won't work for them
  • ☐ A ChatGPT account: you need an account to sign in. OpenAI requires phone verification during registration — the most common sticking point — see the ChatGPT registration guide
  • ☐ A stable network: ChatGPT must be able to reach its servers, so keep the network stable while signing in and using it

Step 1: Enable Google Services Framework ​

Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps (or "App info"), find Google Services Framework and Google Play Services, and make sure they're enabled.

Note: this step only enables them. If these two apps don't exist on your phone at all (common on models without GMS), your device doesn't include Google services — confirm model support first, or use the web version instead.

Step 2: Install Google Play Store ​

If your phone doesn't come with Google Play Store preinstalled:

  1. Open the OPPO app store (or another Chinese Android app market)
  2. Search for "Google Play Store" and install it

This only works on phones that support GMS. If you can't find it, or you can't sign in to your Google account after installing, the model's Google service support is incomplete.

Once installed, Google Play Store works normally.

Step 3: Download the Official ChatGPT App ​

  1. Open Google Play Store
  2. Search for "ChatGPT"
  3. Make sure it's the official app by OpenAI and tap "Install"

Safety reminder: only install from Google Play or the official ChatGPT website. Many third-party download sites and APK packages bundle ads, bloatware, or credential stealers — never install from unknown sources.

Step 4: Sign In or Register for ChatGPT ​

  1. Open the ChatGPT app
  2. Already have a ChatGPT account: tap "Continue with Google" and choose your Gmail account
